I am really proud.
You know, I did all this crazy research about starting babies on solids, afraid of all the craze about allergies and baby obesity and all the mad stuff you read about. I schlep to the organic holistic green place in the other neighborhood to buy one avocado. I steam and cook, chop and mush, divide and measure, and then freeze it all in these little baby cubes.
So, I am sitting eating some humus and pita the other day, you know, an ordinary snack, and neko makes movements towards the container. I decide to give her some (yes, we document everything) and she loved it, loved it more than organic all natural humanely grown and gently picked peaches.
Yup, she’s an Israeli at heart!
(for all non israelis ashkara means really really or like for real, in slang)
Oh yeah?
Neko is not only becoming more and more vocal (try screaming with delight), she has recently become most orally fixated by the entire universe. She approaches the world mouth agape. Even Zsa Zsa is a little afraid.
She has discovered her feet, finally (we were worried she was skipping some developmental milestone thing)..and likes to get into some challenging yoga poses (the one called the happy baby pose). Obviously, she does not take after her mom.
The forecast said thunder, lightning and heavy rain.
Perhaps we were just lazy, but we opted for a Brooklyn weekend: we explored the water front parks in Red Hook, visited the Bronx Zoo and even fit in a play date with Douglas (more on the love affair in the future).
Common theme to all our excursions: neko wants, and desperately so, to have every single person or child in her path to look at her and smile back. We have a most social gremlin.
Peter is a huge soccer fan. Apparently, neko is becoming one as well.
The revolution has begun, and it is all over our kitchen floor. Neko hit the six month mark recently, and we were given the green light (green fingers, hair and everywhere actually) to begin the transition into solids.
Here we share the joys of our strong independent (and feisty) child trying to feed herself carrots, edamame, pears, squash, plums, and anything else we can find that will blend into a nice mushy consistency (cardboard doesn’t work so well). Please note that our little scientific experiment is accompanied by a variety of high chairs: an ode to baby consumerism! So far neko seems to be enjoying the experience, although the accompanying alterations to her diaper, how shall we say, texture, is a bit less enjoyable.

It didn’t just rain, it poured.
Kim didn’t just get sick, she became like a scene from the exorcist.
Sunday made up for it all (we hope): the sun came out in all its glory, the girls played together (not just next to each other in oblivion) and we got to hang out with the three G’s.
Please come back again - we promise not to put anymore funny stuff in the stew.
Side note: we tested out our lunar like hiking pack: neko was so comfy in it she slept the whole hike! Go Kelty Go.
Neko is clearly a morning person, which makes her more like her mom than her dad, ready for full on conversation really early in the day, which she began her today at 5:15 am. (she does like espresso though)
We don’t mind (mostly) since she wakes up smiling, grinning and babbling away.
She is like the sunshine.
