If neko is anything like her mom, then she is gonna love snacking.
I can basically sustain myself with baby carrots (peter recently enlightened me to the fact that they’re not really baby), cottage cheese, humus, potato chips and rice cakes.
Babies get rice cereal, so what’s wrong with brown rice cakes? (yes, all organic of course, no salt and yes, they taste like cardboard) Our child converts them to a wet pulp and makes humming yummy sounds the whole time, waving the large piece in her hand.
This lead to experimenting with bamba - No. 1 Israeli puffed peanut snack . And yes, she went gaga, crunching aways with her little front teeth…stay tuned for other neko experiments…

We love living here. Now that we are a family, we love Brooklyn even more. It’s all about the kids (they are the latest fashion accessory) and the family and how to get them out there and happy, and Halloween is just a perfect excuse…that and a reason to dress your kids funny.
We hooked up with the lovely G family (yeah, I can’t spell their full name) and kicked off a week that will be costume, candy and cat centered. Mae actually walked for the first time today (yippee) and neko didn’t seem to mind the flammable polyester suit she had on. Stay tuned for more orange fun.

We really want her to be super smart, learn to focus, establish routines and bring home a nice Jewish boy.
We have been reading neko stories since the beginning, sometimes Peter reads the hebrew books making up the stories (those are raspberries, not doodies, by the way). Our wonderful nanny takes neko to the public library for babies n books on some mornings (probably the only free thing around) and apparently she loves it and gets super active and social.
Now, if we can only figure out how to tape back the weird peek-a-boo pages and we’re set!
This weekend had the first tingling feeling of cold. That biting refreshing dry air, crinkly leaves, dark mornings and the excitement of dragging out your old sweaters is all around us. Yup, you all know what that means: shopping spree. Babies grow so fast but are really cold, as kickin’ in the stroller doesn’t keep you toasty, apparently they need a foot muff, mittens, hats, and layering, yes , layering is the key. Don’t worry, she is so well dressed we are afraid she can’t even bend her arms.
The economoy being in the spiral that it is, we asked for some ‘gifts’ and got some serious kick ass clothing from the familia in Israel - THANK YOUS!!
Check out the fashionista in some of her new fall items yourself!

I can’t get enough of this place.
They make their ice cubes out of ice coffee.
Their cookies are small pieces of heaven…so small you have to eat four (maybe even five).
Neko has been frequenting (emphasis on frequent) this local bakery since she was one week old, probably way too often (in other words, her mom will never ever loose the ‘baby weight‘)…and the staff have watched her grow and develop into the screeching, singing, babbling loud baby she is these days.
Three cheers for cookies and babies…we are still keeping her off sugar for a while!

Keren:

Neko has hit that stage where not only do we wonder about what kind of personality will she have (shy and quiet), but what she will look like as a toddler. That immediately leads to the hottest topic of the day:

It all started in China Town (like all good things).
Now we are a family. Incredible. The past two years have flown by. To celebrate the event, we took neko to the scene of the crime, to familiarize her with fine dim sum cuisine. We then showed her the sights, sounds and some unfortunate smells of the neighborhood.
This post is also just to tell my husband of TWO years how much I love him and can’t wait for us all to grow together (probably in width more than height).

What’s the best way to schlep around your baby?
We clearly don’t know. The past months have seen a variety of baby carriers - all purchased (also loaned, handed down and gifted) with our hard earned money. We got the prerequisite bjorn (with winter cover thingy), we got four slings in different colors and sizes, we have two hiking back packs and now we have this new thing called an ergo. A must have for the Brooklyn based hipster family (along with limited edition sneakers and a rock t-shirt and a cute Asian friend-yes, we can check all those off, can you?). Let’s not mention the strollers and car seats.
As neko reaches the 20 pound mark (probably more now) I figure throwing her over my shoulder, wrapping her in masking tape and running real fast will be the only way to go!
Neko had her month day, a term her genius father developed for the monthly birthdays we like to make a big deal of.
We celebrated her month day by schlepping her to the newly renovated Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the first silver LEED museum in the country. (I am studying for LEED certification so this was uber cool)
Neko got to touch, feel, probe, grab and shove into her mouth nearly every object and surface in the place, including the super cool hand puppets and other babies shoes. She had loads of fun, as did her parents, who marveled at the totally child oriented exhibits (what does that say about us). Everything is designed for disaster and mischief minded children. Neko is now well into Miss Detsructo mode herself.
Happy Seventh Month Birth Day!!!
