Baby Sitting

Neko’s got a social life all on her own: play-dates, classes, parks, play-spaces, zoos and stealing other kid’s snacks.

Rhonda documents some days so that I don’t feel weird when strange moms wave hi to neko as we walk around the hood, or even more uncomfortable when they come to me and say, oh, she’s bitten my son….

Weekend Hurrah

What’s better than a three day weekend - a four day weekend!

Memorial Day officially kicked off the summer season with soap bubbles (Franck claims they are edible fancy ones..we are skeptics), friends playing on the grass, grilling and smoking pork (where is the stash from last year?), sliding fast (when are the swings going up?), hiking with the giant baby backpacks, dandelion head fluff, hammock rides, geese poop, almost peonies in bloom, mom made popsicles and spending the days entirely outdoors.

Oh, and licking rocks and eating dirt as much as possible….

Oh, and pooping on the floor in the kitchen…

Oh, and discovering hot dogs (don’t worry they are 100% antibiotic hormone free all natural and organic and uncured and come from humanely raised farms and all that shit)….

Isaac - You’ve Been Chosen - Halleluja!

Isaac - Just Born 05.14.09

We take this post to welcome Issac Kusminsky Zublatt to our world and to congratulate his parents on joining the over whelmed under slept over anxious totally in love and completely overjoyed parenthood land.

They don’t realize this yet, but he’s been picked as neko’s future man.

She’s planning on teaching him a few things before they eventually catch up to each other (plus minus 28 years):

  1. How to be the quintessential Brooklyn baby: hipster style with effortless chic.
  2. Say things in Hebrew with the proper ‘cha’ sound, like humus (try it, it tickles your throat).
  3. How to be the center of attention for the next 40 years, or until his parents get a new car or maybe the latest wii accessorie.
  4. At around 8 weeks into his life, when his mom thinks she’s got the mojo and the whole thing down, and has succeeded in getting him dressed, diaper bag packed and even herself showered, all in under 3.5 hours…well, then, neko’s got the secret joke to share with Isaac:  diaper explosion so bad it leaks out of the onesie into the brand new Uppa…right in the elevator ride down….
  5. How to be the best and sweetest and cutest little dude ever born (he was well worth that extra wait)
  6. And, let’s not forget, to follow Neko around and be her best buddy for years…..

Small Person on the Move

Basically, from now on all our pictures of neko will look something like this (minus all blurry deleted images):

Set Building

Peter’s totally generous parents (aka E-E and Oompa) have purchased and delivered the most incredible swing and slide set for neko’s amusement and pleasure.  She has no idea what fun awaits..(if i ever let her actually climb this)

Now all that’s left is to install the 800 pound behemoth.

Peter and his dad started this incredible task last weekend, and managed to make some serious progress, albeit missing pieces (who needs screws anyway)….

Neko ran over to help the men and we discovered a little engineer (M.I.T. baby) in the making:

It begins Tools n babies I'm the cornerstone to this operation Hmmm whats going on over there? Level headed So you need me to hold this? I gonna move all these so they cant find them i love washers I need to help here guys You guys are missing some pieces Neko joins the scene Peter at work Slide parts

Now all we need is to collect the scattered washers, tools and instructions and installation can proceed.

Decked Out

When we can manage it, we have started on a new trend of eating dinner with our child on our deck (also came about from my hysteria at her refusal to eat for 7.5 days anything that didn’t resemble a pretzel).

Yes, we are just like those old retired Jews living in Florida (only not as tanned) now: we wake up early and kvetch…we eat dinner at sunset and kvetch…

So far we have been semi successful at this tradition and totally unsuccesful at keeping neko from eating the dirt in the planters.

Oh - as part of me tying to get her to eat (notice resemblance to old jewish grandmother)  I let her sample some spicey shrimp chips (1/2 bag) - one needs variety in the snack department, no?

P.S.

I love you neko and peter, thank you for taking me with you….

Miami Vice Part II

The challenge with an opinionated child is that well, they have a mind and a will.

Somewhere in the past 13.5 months neko developed a strong personality which somehow influences her taste buds:  she likes adult food - no more mushy steamed bland brown matter for this chick.

Miami gave her a first real taste of junk food (loosely defined as anything not from whole foods or not containing obsessively researched ingredients carefully prepared by her mother).  She ate french fries…she tasted pizza and sand…she nibbled on flower petals and drank chlorine water….but most of all she loved the bright yellow fake cheese sandwiches served by the pool:

Very yellow cheese French Fried goodness Pool water Pain con bono Sunflower petals Pizza Face Seriously guys-this crap again? All done Glass Pebbles Fruit Snack Chlorine yumm yumm

And to tell you the truth, vacation nutrition may be bad but it feels so good!
