Play Pause Rewind

We’ve only been back 7 days, and a lifetime of things have happened.

We only spent 13 days there, yet I feel like neko experienced so mcuh love, so many family members, saw so many things, and said so much stuff for the first time, and that if I don’t somehow write it all down in some sort of post format, well, then it will tumble into the back of my mind, along with thousands of neko memories.

Trying to look back and remember everything sometimes feels like I’m on super fast rewind mode and someone stole my pause button.

So here are some things I want to keep:

  • North Trip - Neko runs wild in Klil wth her Sata (Savta) and Shashar (Shachar); loves kitties; refuses to sleep; reads books in the dark and learns all about Mosito Box (Mosquito Bites):
Pool play Cactus Happy Sunshine Savta Proud Happy Lookin Good Savta Water and kids inside the pool Modeling Target Bathing suits Good Morning Pointing while talking Wanna look at somethin (zoo) To be framed next to my bedside Say cheese Closer closer closer Wile beast in zoo let free Picked up Maya from choochoo IMG_5064 Hat girls Cable car - do I seem scared shitless? Caves Inside Humid caves Blinded by the light Making Art while eating nuts Sunglasses
  • Begging/ Demanding to wear her gida (glida) shirt basically every day
  • Morning After - Neko wakes up giddy and happy in our hotel room, following the wedding, but obsesses over her burn wound and the fact that I touch de light ima, I touch de light for the next few days.
Ghost Curtain call Mosquito
  • Riding in glass elevator and screaming I see da water each time the shore line appeared…this occurred about 8-12 times a day.
  • Discovering the snack drawer at my dad’s house and one afternoon, totally unobserved, sneaks away quietly, only to be found (by me as my father observes this all calmly)  13 minutes later, sitting across from her Saba, shoving away mouthfuls of choket (yeah, Saba thought it was hilarious).
  • Begging to go to Misa’ada (restaurant) and then asking the waitress immediately as she sits down for chinken, while doing cheers with everyone as soon as water is placed on the table.
  • Our last day - Spent running errands, getting in some last sun rays and playing on the hot nadned with Sata and Shashar:
Up and down Nad - ned Da Uncle Da Father Hot slide
  • Airport - neko insisting to put her packpack on the check in belt and only removing it after the nice lady gave her some name tags:
Absolutely cannot go on Heavy Lifting Safe travels Afternoon nap extension
  • Jetlag - the seven hour time difference was killer to us all, but we made it through and are now proud to say we can beat time zones in less than 48 hours!
  • Our next trip - Local!

Feeling hot hot hot

It’s August NYC hot (and it’s only June)- and you all know what that feels like: grimy, sticky, walking through a heavy mass of ’someone forgot to turn the hair dryer off’ type feeling.

Solution: bust out the kiddie pool!

One more Israel Post

We take a lot of photos of our favorite subject, and yet somehow there are still not enough.  I always wish I could capture the essence of our experiences together, the funny tone and lilt of voice neko has when she says certain things, the serious face she makes when she eats, how she kicks her feet off to the sides when she runs, how she laughs deep from her belly, how her hair smells when she wakes up, the way she puts one hand on her hip when trying to appear older, how exhilarated she is when there are older kids around, how much she loves her father and lights up when she sees him, her infectious silliness, how words still get marbled in her mouth although her head knows what she wants to say, her capacity to remember places and people, her emerging girlishness…

I can’t really express any of that and not one of the 4,566,123 pictures thus far documenting her growth can either, but she sure looks cute here:

Hanging - Israel Style

Although Peter and I find it rather to difficult to relax, the whole point of being on vacation, well, is to relax…to let go.  I think that by day 12 we were the most chill we will ever get (and if you know us then you know that is a rare sight).

Most of the hanging out while attempting to unwind were accomplished near and in the water. Our daily schedule included either the beach or the pool. Neko always exclaiming loudly: I see da waaater!

When neko was not trying to float like a maper (mermaid in nekoese), we did a lot of hanging on the balcony, with friends, friends with kids, kids, family and lots of snacking:

We also took lots of site seeing walks, investigated new foods and recently built up hoods, played with some older girls and got lots of loving from all around (plus got rock style drunk one too many nights out - that’s what happens when you get on site bsitting services - thanks taly and saba):

The Wedding

The preparations for this event were intense:  we had two dresses, six pairs of silver strappy sandals delivered from Zappos (and five promptly returned), a mad dash through Soho to find the perfect hair clip, and then let’s not forget the matching diaper cover.  What, you thought I was referring to the bride, eh?

While the nervous butterflies and tears flowed freely in the days leading up to the wedding, we worked hard to convince neko that the event, or the princess party, as i was referring to it, will be much like a huge birthday bash.  Some kids get nervous when 600 pairs of eyes are on them, so I wanted to ensure neko comprehended that this was fun, casual, and above all a big-girl-princess-party thing.

After having quickly fixed the minor disaster of neko’s hair garland missing (she cried and cried neko no have no flower in ha hair like big guls, all while the bride is attacking her producer that she cannot possibly walk out there without her niece)…..neko walked down the aisle with all her flowers, head held high, looking so sweet and serious, following the other girls. I stood there beaming with pride at my beautiful independent and strong little girl….What, you thought I was referring to neko, eh?

The sun was setting and nice salty breeze was coming off the ocean. Maya was stunning.  Ilan filled with emotions.  My parents were standing up there, and just as the ceremony wedding these two lovelies began neko innocently touched one of those projecting spot lights, crying in pain and shock, a blister forming immediately and I had to whisk her away, looking for ice and ‘owa cream.’

Do not fret, the excitement got the most of neko, and she calmed down quickly (a little Disney helped too).  Once neko was safely tucked away sleeping in her hotel bed, we celebrated the marriage of my baby sis in style - yeah, we got totally drunk and ended up paying the baby sitter the equivalent of a small fortune since exchange rate calculations are not my forte after 6-10 cocktails!

Israel - the 2010 version

We went on a really long airplane ride where neko proceeded to vomit, much to the disappointment of the middle aged grumpy continental staff (imagine woman screeching that blanket with vomit ‘needs to go in body fluid bag‘ while faced with a crying filthy child).

We got tanned without any sun burns, although slathering on sun tan lotion every 33 minutes can become semi irritating.

We ate humus ( quite a bit), even though i prefer eating fresh moist rugellach all day.

We played with ‘big guls’ and jumped in the ocean and asked to float like a ‘maper’ (neko’s version of mermaid).

We suffered from severe jet lag (more on that later) and some terrible two’s roared their toddler heads.

We got loved and pampered by aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends.

We watched Maya (da big pincess) get married, danced and cried (tears of joy that is).

We did so much that one single post cannot possible contain it all….here are a few highlight photos, and will post more once we settle down:
