Everyone knows … babies suck.  Literally.  If you’ve ever seen a 5 month old in action, they put everything in their mouths.  Neko is no exception.  She sees things, and she WANTS them - kinda like Keren at a Sigerson Morrison sale.  But, not only does she want them, she makes an irritated “mmm mmm” sound to tell us.  It is the sound of a baby desperate to lick, suck, and gnaw.  In fact, this oral fixation has transformed our serene, gentle child into a flailing, wriggling meshuggenah.  Who can blame her?  She has two teeth emerging from her lower jaw, and she wants to use them.  I can’t wait until they get bigger and we can use them to our advantage.  In the meantime, the teething is surely a bit painful, so she will probably keep enjoying a good chomp of everything that might soothe her aching gums.  And, like neurotic, first-time parents, we will keep rinsing everything she uses as a drool receptacle .  Recent objects of her oral attention include a frozen bagel, a bathroom faucet, a toy hippo, and her daddy’s nose.  Yum!
