Coxsackie

First we thought it was just a plain old fever, but having watched Nemo, The Lion King and Pochano (Pinocchio in Nekoese) and having neko cry that she wants to be lay down, I realized something was off (she even refused ice cream):

Hairdo Coxsackie

After a brave visit at the doctor (neko thought it was funny doc was using q-tips in her mouth and not her ears and tickling her with thermometer under her arm) we got a coxsackie diagnosis (say that fast like 8 times).  This basically means that we are home bound (hellish heat outside and contagiousness), watching more movies (i’ve got animation overload) and making the most of it, like playing impromptu dress up:

Starts off innocently Add backpack and hat Tape measure = necessaty Nerd glasses My kid Going anywhere? Add some more bags Ready to party

Truthfully, I was kinda worried that this is what brought it all on, but ends up it may just be the sandbox:

Urban child rearing means (to me at least) having the best NY has to offer: museums, cultural gatherings, friends all over, music, deli on every corner, great food and on and on but it also means: stoops, hauling heavy child with tractor sized stroller on onto subway platform, food shopping 6 miles away and hauling said food up stairs, becoming friends with the UPS guy so he hides packages under the neighbor’s motorcycle awning (shhhhh).  A huge help in the schlep less department has been diapers.com.  No, I am not benefiting from this post, heck, I didn’t even get a coupon sent to me via email exulting what a loyal customer I have been.

It’s like buying cheese doodles in those giant plastic bins they sell at staples(yeah, i need printer paper and 80 lb of cheese doodles) - we never run out of creams, shampoo, diapers, plastic anything and even boogie wipes (never used these but the concept seems intriguing).

Neko obviously appreciates the monster boxes arriving, on cue, on the 4th of every month.  she spends an awful lot of time just climbing in and out and often begs us to push her around like go carts….who needs hand crafted wooden gems when we got cardboard?

Night diapers - the obvious choice Perfect fit First picture taken Kinda comfy Not a toilet Looking suspicious

Vilde Chaye - Turns 2

Finding the theme was easy: vilde chaye (a wild beast) is the quintessential neko mode.

Then my mom came as backup troops to help with the decorations:

A few paper cuts later, we proceeded to make cake pops….  yeah, everyone needs those these days! The process was totally hilarious (those swirly wirlies) and the result a success:

Cake pops Hysterical Candy making good Pop it

Neko woke up and wowed a LOT.  She couldn’t believe the amount of animals, colors, balloons and whole wheat bagels all around her:

Stealing cheese Chayes Father figure Animals everywhere Silouhette

And then they came - all of neko’s friends and loved ones (she wakes up every day asking to go to one of their homes).

Ball bit - the beginning Elodie is cute Kids and parents Lets fit more kids in there Happy-ness Colorful girls Wishig they could dive in Kids n balls Glee Neko is 2 Baby Bu Fatherly Snacking Butterfly girl Guitar girl Fly catcher Seriously looking into the distance Cookie cookie cookie Through the cardboard fence In da house My lovies Mae eyeing the cake pops Brianna and pappi Three candles (one for good luck) Familia (blur) Elodie n pop Living room crawling with kids Living room crawling with parents

Oh, how happy you made her (and us)!

Thank you for joining and giving and loving and being…

Here is to making it another year….

One year ago: the gremlin theme.

Sloping

It snowed.

A lot.

Since neko woke up demanding to see Ra-Ra (actually she asked to go to her house about 13 times that morning - and it was only 7:35 am), we did what everyone else and their kids was doing that morning and headed to Prospect Park for some snow bunny action.

Neko tackled the mounds of snow without fear, rushing to taste it, falling right into it, and throwing tiny snowballs at me.  Mostly she asked for Ra-Ra, whose parents were soliciting locals for help digging themselves a parking spot:

One small step for mankind I got the boots on Running at me w/ snowball Face flat Ice cone Slip sliding Waiting for godot

Upon rara’s arrival neko became her giggly self and the two ran and up and down and all around…stopping only to snack (picture virgin white snow studded with raisins) or to lick some ice.  The sledding was not so successful (the adults totally loved it) , and even though it seemed the girls kinda liked it (no fearful crying or anyone thrown out of the plastic shield), they refused a second run….the snowball fights were a different story:

Gateway Go Go Now what? Fallen and can't get up Arches make them happy Down the mountain Note snowball in mid air Pink cuteness Happy The chase The Family Even snow bunnies need a break Snack time Bethany + Rara Slide Parental Units Neko is behind there somewhere The arrival

Man - I can’t wait for water skiing!

She will hate me for this one day

Gotta get her on prune juice regiment again:

It happened

In every adult’s life there comes that special day, that incredible moment -  the realization that they have become their parents.

Nothing makes that more obvious that having a child of your own.

We fuss, we do things we swore deep in our childish hearts (and on the shrink sofa) we would never do.

For me, such a moment happened today (there have been many in the past - ask my sister about talking with the finger)…..

I had a few minutes in between meetings =  go to starbucks for bad expensive coffee and free wifi.

what did I do with those precious minutes?  Yeah, you guessed it, I looked at pictutes of my daughter, obsessing over every detail of her hair (will it be curly or straight?), skin (is it a little dry lately?), development (is it ok that she no longer meows for cat?) and growth (is it ok she will only eat avocado and cookies?)

But that’s not the story: they were playing, now, Saba Chaim, this is for you, Weather Report (Birdland - I llooked it up), and I liked it.

I wanted to stay there and be all sentimental and move my foot to the music.

Oy - pappi, what have you done to me?

Cookie love

And, will i do it to neko too?

Sizzling August

We complained when it was raining so much in June.

We complained when it was too hot too quickly in July.

And now, even I am at a loss of complaints for the oppressing heat we have witnessed here.

Only way to cool off is is be naked, drinking iced watermelon juice.
